About this guide.

A simpler way to explore food support listed in Vancouver’s open data.

Find an option that fits.

This guide brings program locations, listed schedules, costs and requirements together. Use the map and filters to explore options, then read the details and contact the provider before making a trip.

This is an independent project. It is not operated by, affiliated with, or endorsed by the City of Vancouver, and it does not run the programs listed here.

Where the listings come from.

The source is the City of Vancouver’s Free and low cost food programs dataset. Its scope includes meal services, grocery hampers, food-bank programs, lower-cost groceries and grocery vouchers.

City staff maintain the information in consultation with program organisations. This site presents those records through its own design, filters and map.

Check before you go.

The City describes the dataset as refreshed daily, but changes at individual programs can take time to reach the records. The City recommends verifying details directly with providers.

This site caches the data for approximately one day and refreshes it on demand. A page-generation date does not mean every listing was recently verified. Listed service days do not guarantee that a program is operating today or has food available.

What the filters mean.

Population tags are this site’s grouping of the recorded descriptions. A listing can belong to several groups. Always read the original population description in Details for age ranges and other restrictions.

When you choose a population, the optional checkbox also includes records where that information is unspecified. Missing information does not mean everyone is eligible. Signup, referral and client requirements can still apply.

Map numbers count matching programs grouped nearby. Zoom in to separate locations; choose a shared location to see its programs. A program without usable coordinates remains in the results list.

Found a detail that needs updating?

Contact the provider to confirm its current service. For corrections to the City’s source dataset, its published contact is foodpolicy@vancouver.ca. Include the program name and the detail that appears incorrect.

Open data, independently presented.

The dataset is published under the Open Government Licence – Vancouver, which permits reuse and adaptation subject to its terms. Source credit and a licence link are provided below. This website’s design and population groupings are independent additions; they do not imply City approval.
